Company Wins Innovation Award at Online Information 1998 Event

New York, NY - December 17, 1998 -- Effective immediately, Nihon Keizai Shimbun America, Inc. (Nikkei), a fully-owned subsidiary of Nihon Keizai Shimbun Inc., Japan's leading financial media organization, will license its financial data content electronically through Data Downlink Corporation's web-based service, .xls (www.xls.com). This is the first time Nikkei has licensed data to an Internet-based service. Data Downlink has also added WorldVest Base Inc., a leading source of international financial data, to its roster of business and financial information suppliers.

In a joint announcement today, Nikkei and Data Downlink noted that reliable financial information from Japan is otherwise difficult to find, especially in English language. Under the agreement, Nikkei will supply consolidated and unconsolidated corporate financial statements in English on Japanese listed and over-the-counter traded companies. This database covers more than 3,200 companies with historical data going back as far as 1991. Nikkei expects to offer other financial databases via Data Downlink in the future, including its index-related data and corporate earning estimates.
