Industry Insider™ and MarkIntel® PDF's now on .xls
October 1, 1999

Data Downlink has just released MarkIntel® market research reports in PDF format and the Industry Insider™ database, both from Thomson Financial Securities Data.

The number of MarkIntel® market research reports on .xls has almost doubled with the addition of the PDF format reports. Previously, reports were only available in text-based format, which could be downloaded to either HTML or Word. The .xls application will now search across both text-based and PDF documents simultaneously. Your search results will include the report date, title, source, page count and available formats of the report. Some reports are available in both text-based and PDF format, while others may only be available in one format. The PDF file format preserves all the graphical information, color, and text formatting contained in the original document, while the text-based version will typically contain more comprehensive indexing and will allow you to download any tables embedded in the report to Excel.

Industry Insider™, the world's first electronic collection of trade association research and analysis, provides in-depth studies -- including trends, forecasts and statistics -- for specific industries, written by chief economists at more than 180 trade associations worldwide. .xls customers can search the database by keyword, industry, geographical region, or by specific source. The most recent reports are priced at $10.00 per page, and reports over 60 days old are $8.00 per page. All reports download in PDF format.

In addition to these changes, the MarkIntel® and Investext® databases have new and improved search screens. We have combined the "basic" and "advanced" searches onto one page, giving users more flexibility and the choice between using "web" or "Boolean" syntax in the keyword box. We now allow users to select specific items from the list of sources, and then include or exclude them from the search. Multi-select lists have been added for industry, product, subject, source and geographical region for more precise searching.
