What is Pulse?
Designed as a current awareness and idea generation tool for financial and professional services executives, Alacra Pulse filters both traditional media and blogs to extract actionable intelligence on business events like analyst comments, M&A rumors, debt restructurings and CEO remarks.
How is Pulse different from other news services?
Unlike general news services, which push out press releases, product announcements and other soft news, Alacra Pulse delivers only key business events, and a dramatically improved signal-to-noise ratio. Pulse improves upon incumbent intelligence gathering solutions with a proprietary, four-step insight distillation process: source curation, event detection, semantic analysis, and human editorial oversight.
What sources does Pulse include?
Rather than taking a "boil the ocean" approach and sifting through the entire web, Alacra Pulse editors have hand-selected 3,000 RSS feeds from both mainstream and alternative media. Source curation, with continuous vetting, ensures that only credible information of the highest quality is presented to users.
How do financial and professional services executives use Pulse?
We find Alacra Pulse filling two needs: idea generation and current awareness. From an idea generation standpoint, whether you're a wealth management professional, an investment banker, or a senior partner at a management consulting firm, you're always looking for reasons to pick up the phone and call a client or prospect. At the same time, while you can't read everything, you need to be aware of the latest events on clients and their peer group. Or, as one client put it, "I can't know everything, but I never want to look like an idiot."
What is the business model?
There are two versions of Pulse: "freemium" and subscription. The freemium version is web accessible and features a limited number of the most recent business events. It exposes a broader swath of professionals to the service and enhanced capabilities of the subscription version "PulsePro." The professional version is sold to investment and commercial banks, asset management firms, hedge funds, professional service firms and corporations, and is typically integrated into the customer's existing workflows via API or feed. It includes mobile and desktop alerting, the ability to create watch lists, and tools to easily share search results with peers or clients.
The Alacra Pulse business model is also different than incumbent providers'. At the high-end today are specialized services with high per-desktop pricing models. PulsePro, our premium product line, offers a range of functionality not available on other platforms and is priced on an enterprise or department-wide basis, rather than per desktop, enabling wider use throughout an organization.
How does this benefit bloggers and publishers?
Pulse has been built with the philosophy that the more you send users away, the more they come back. Rather than trying to republish content, we simply aggregate information from other publishers in a useful manner, and provide links driving the users back to the underlying sources. Much like Google, we aim to drive traffic to blogs and content websites, allowing them to monetize that traffic.
